Facial Oils 101 - Esthetician Tips

February, 28th 2022

Facial oils are incredibly beneficial, yet very misunderstood. In fact, oils in skincare could be considered essential for most people to deliver extra nourishment and hydration.

Avoid Dehydrated Skin

One of the main jobs our skin has is to protect us and keep water, and our skin’s natural moisture factor (NMF) in, and keep the ‘bad stuff’, like bacteria and environmental stressors, out. When our skin loses that water, it becomes dehydrated. This leads to skin looking more red, irritated, and our lines and wrinkles are more visible. The major way our skin does this important job of preventing water loss is through our lipid barrier, that is a mix of fatty acids, ceramides, and cholesterol. Using skin care oils helps lock in the water and NMF in our skin and support our lipid barrier.

Rosehip Oil

Pure Pressed Facial Oils

Facial oils that are from pure pressed nut and seed oils are different from essential oils, and oil blends. Not all oils have the same amount of nutrients, skin benefits, and some may be more pore clogging and only suitable for certain skin types. In fact, some oils may be heavy, greasy and not well suited for the needs of the face at all. The goPure Rosehip Oil is a pure pressed, premium oil that is packed with Vitamins, Minerals, Fatty Acids, Omegas, Antioxidants and more to give a moisturizing boost to your skin care routine.

Oils For Your Skin Type

Oils can be found as an ingredient in our products, like moisturizers, or as a stand alone product, like a facial oil. They can be an oil blend, or a 100% pure and just 1 ingredient. Our skin type and skin concerns will determine what is best for us. All skin types can find an oil best suited for them, but dry and mature skin types can especially benefit from adding in a facial oil. Rosehip is an oil that works on most skin types, even breakout prone and oily skin. It is not heavy, and even has a natural form of Vitamin A, all-trans retinoic acid, that has been touted as an alternative to retinol. It is a wonderful booster oil to add into or on top of your moisturizer. Our Vitamin C Dry Oil also works for all skin types. It is a dry oil and makes for an amazing overnight treatment thanks to its 30% THD Ascorbate Vitamin C, Squalane, and BRIGHT Oleoactif.

Add Oils to Your Routine

These oils can be used day or night! They are wonderful to add in when using active ingredients like glycolic acid and retinol, or whenever your skin needs a moisturizing boost.

Esthetician Tip: Adding in a facial oil can seem overwhelming, but they are a quick and easy addition that delivers meaningful results. The easiest way to add in an oil is at the very end of your nighttime routine, after your moisturizer. Simply press on a few drops around the face and neck. You can even give an extra boost to your eye and lip care by pressing in a small amount on this area. My main rule is that oils will lock in what is underneath them since water-based ingredients can have a hard time getting through them, so that is perfect as a last step.
